Architect/Designer/Contractor Questions for Library Renovation
- What is your design philosophy?
- Can you provide examples of any libraries you have previously designed? What elements of these designs were driven by staff or community feedback? What elements were created to foster inclusive access and accessibility? (So that you can check to see if those are designed in an inclusive manner)
- Who on the team has training or experience in accessible design? How about Universal Design? Can you describe this training and/or expertise?
- What is your process for building flexibility for future changing needs into your design?
- Can you provide examples of accessible and inclusive features you have integrated into other design projects?
- Can you provide an example of a time you have applied the principles of Universal Design to a project?
- Will an ADA Compliance Officer be a part of your team? If not, who will be responsible for tracking ADA compliance throughout the project?
- How do you usually gather feedback from the community and library employees? How do you incorporate that information into your design process? Can you give specific examples from past projects?
