SUNY Library Services (SLS)

Overview

In 2019, SUNY Libraries culminated a multi-year library services migration project with the implementation of Ex Libris's Alma/Primo Library Management System. Prior to the migration, material circulation, resource sharing, electronic resource management, and analytics were administered in siloed library systems that did not communicate with each other.

Ex Libris's Alma centralizes management of print, electronic and digital content, as well as user access to this content, for more efficient library workflows. Library staff are now able to manage user authentication, content requests, loan tracking, collection management, and system analytics in this powerful unified system. Primo VE provides the public interface for content discovery and allows libraries to introduce users to not just local content, but also SUNY-wide, national, and international resources. The Alma/Primo system has been pivotal to SUNY OLIS's ability to coordinate and optimize SUNY Library cooperation and collaboration and financial savings.

SUNY Library Services (SLS) created and maintains Training Guides and FAQs covering all aspects of Alma/Primo VE. SLS also hosts policies approved by SUNY libraries constituents.
