Cataloging in a Shared Bibliographic Environment

SUNY libraries share a bibliographic environment called the Network Zone (NZ). The NZ was seeded from OCLC, and ongoing updates are maintained by campus exports from OCLC and by OCLC import profiles for new bib records, updated bib records, and merged bib records for SUNY library-held records.

In SUNY:

  • All cataloging takes place in OCLC
  • All bibliographic records in the Network Zone (NZ) are required to have an OCLC in MARC field 035 $$a
  • OCLC numbers in Network Zone (NZ) records should not be changed
