A & I |
Abstracting and Indexing Database. In Alma, these are Electronic Collections with no portfolios. These are database records with no holdings for linking, and are used to connect orders to for acquisitions, and for discovery. | A and I or abstracting and indexing is a common term in Holdings Management/Ebsco Admin, and other knowledgebase products. |
API | An Application Programming Interface (API) is a method for applications to interact with each other using defined protocols and methods. Alma has many APIs that allow other applications such as Spineomatic to retrieve information from Alma, or other applications such as Gobi to send information to Alma.
CZ or Community Zone | The Community Zone is the global knowledgebase of electronic resources that ExLibris maintains, allowing all Alma subscribers to link their local holdings to this resource. Collections linked to the CZ automatically receive updates from the CZ, reducing the need for campuses to locally manage collections. | In many ways, Worldcat is like the CZ, but includes more types of resources that libraries attach holdings to. In Ebsco Admin, Holdings Management linked to the Ebsco knowledgebase, which updated holdings automatically. |
EOD | Embedded Order Data (EOD) is vendor information embedded in files sent via a vendor in bulk. This data allows order information to be imported in bulk. | EOD could be used by other systems such as Aleph, but was not widely used in SUNY. |

Job | Jobs have a variety of uses in Alma, and are the engine for any bulk task in Alma. Some jobs are "scheduled," and run in the background without requesting them to perform actions that finish processes. Some jobs must be run manually, and require parameters such as a set (a group of records). During implementation, all scheduled jobs are disabled, but our implementation team can run them on demand for you.

Network Zone or NZ | The Network Zone is the central consortial infrastructure for SUNY. The major component of the Network Zone is the shared bibliographic database of all SUNY physical materials (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.). Other centralized management such as configuration for resource sharing is housed in the NZ. | The NZ is a new technology infrastructure for SUNY, and was not present in previous systems. |
Portfolio | In general, a portfolio is a title in Alma, and usually refers to a journal title or ebook title. The portfolio also handles all the other relationships to other parts of Alma: such as linking, services and other settings that determine access, | In Holdings Management, this would be a title, and in Aleph, these would be a combination of bib and holdings records. |
Rota | A rota is a list of libraries that Alma will use to send resource sharing requests to. Rotas can be ordered, which means that requests will go through the same order of libraries for availability for every request. Or, rotas can be randomized so that a library is selected from the rota randomly each time a resource sharing request is created. | Rotas work much like custom holdings in OCLC/ILLiad. |
Selective Package | A type of electronic collection that provides full-text coverage, but typically provides only a portion of a publisher's package. These collections can be society packages or other journal collections. Selective packages are often used to activate groupings of portfolios (journal titles or ebooks) that a campus subscribes to or purchased from a publisher or vendor. |
